National Mountainineering Exhibition

The British Mountaineering Council wanted more than just an advert for the National Mountaineering Exhibition at Rheged. They wanted an online resource celebrating British Mountaineering history. We produced an interactive map of 50 of the world’s most significant mountains, biographies of many influential figures in mountaineering and an interactive timeline of groundbreaking events in mountaineering history.

bnm interactive have produced award-winning interactive cdroms for a range of clients. From enouraging young people to visit the great outdoors and learn about team building and leadership skill there's The Outward Bound Xperience. Highly-acclaimed interactive training in The Art of Outdoor Navigation takes novices and experienced outdoors people alike through a rigorous set of exercises which teach them the skills needed to find your away the countryside. King Kong Climbing Walls produce some of the most realistic climbing walls in the world and wanted to show off their products in this informative explanation of walls, climbing and accessories.

The Art of Outdoor Navigation

Described as “The best cdrom for learning and improving navigation skills.” by the director of Outward Bound and “The industry standard aid for teaching navigation.” by On The Hill magazine, The Art of Outdoor Navigation proved that bnm are equally comfortable designing and coding complex, interactive cdroms as they are websites.
“Everyone worked extremely hard to get this out and the end result was superb,” says Martyn Hurn, author of the cd and one of the country's most experienced outdoor navigators. “I’m looking forward to future versions and working again with bnm.”
With a North American in the pipeline, the cd takes novices and experts alike through the process of using a compass, recognising features, route planning, map reading and much more. The cd makes the most of the medium and is an essential tool for everyone interested in the outdoors.

The Outward Bound Xperience

The Outward Bound commissioned BNM to produce a cdrom to promote its services to children. “We created four characters, Mike, Sharat, Fiona and Therese who, guided by the user, have to overcome typical challenges faced by people on an Outward Bound course. They need to build a raft, choose wisely when they pack their rucksacks and, ultimately, learn to work as part of a team. They are advised along the way by a virtual instructor, Naomi, who, along with a little gentle coaching, helps the user through to the end where they’re rewarded with a certificate of achievement.
Over 3,000 disks have been distributed to schools and colleges across the country.

Our carbon footprint

Apart from the obvious recycling regime (paperless office anyone?) we're the main creative force behind KOCO2 — Knock Out Carbon Dioxide.
Along with Tristan Olivier (grandson of Lawrence— not that we're namedropping or anything) and Route 15 Media in New York we've set up Carbon Conquest LLC in the US.
KOCO2 is involved with Disney, Coca Cola and The Carbon Trust to name but a few and is aimed at creating a global brand under which individuals, organisations and businesses can gather and declare their commitment to looking after the planet,

Show how much you care by getting your very own KOCO2 email address — you@koco2mail.com — and spreading the word. Walk the squawk!

The Weekly... ?

Each week or so we'll be showcasing bits and bobs from all of us (and others). Sometimes a song, others a photograph...

This week it's a music video from Tom McNab, an intriguing and prepossessing young musician. He's based in Bristol— we should all keep an eye on him. Check out his Sliptone MySpace. Keep it crispy!

The press conference for Tom Waits' summer '08 Glitter and Doom tour. Genius.
